Peacehaven PSA

For this project we were split into groups and went out to Peacehaven farm and recorded interviews and B-roll. We then came back and worked in pairs to create a PSA for one of the key things Peacehaven does. For my partner and I we made one for their fiber arts program. We compilled B-roll of the fiber arts and people making items with interviews of some of the people that work at Peacehaven.

The most challenging part was definitely the editing and weeding out what we could actually work with versus what we couldn’t. We had to find materials that we felt like would make for a solid PSA and not be too busy. Overall I’m very satisfied with the way that our PSA turned out. I think that it is a really good reflection of their program and how hard we worked.

Final Painting

For my “Painting Audio Project” I chose a very simple painting of a man sitting on a curb smoking. This piece really stuck out to me for some reason because the man was alone and looked a little bummed. I chose to elaborate on that story and say why he might be sitting on the curb and what his family life was like. I think the hardest part about this project was writing the script and making it something interesting. I like my final product but I don’t know how great my script is because this is the first time I’ve ever tried to do something like that. This project was a great way for me to exercise my new found Premier and Photoshop skills though.

Audio Production Assignment

For my project I decided to focus on service abroad opportunities. To do this I interviewed Nicholas Suarez who did service in Malawi recently. He spoke very highly of his trip and found it to be very impactful. This project was an excellent way for me to become more proficient with Premier and with the minor technical difficulties with the ZoomRecorder, I can say that I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles that Ive faced with previous projects.

Kindness Poem

For this assignment we were given the poem “Kindness” by Naomi Shihab Nye. We each recorded ourselves reciting the poem, then we had to create a version of the poem that was essentially a mashup of our classmates taking turns reading the poem. After that we had to add sound effects, music, and ambience in the background. The hardest part of this for me was getting everything to flow and sound natural. Having numerous people talking with different volumes and tones is hard to force together and make sound cohesive, but through the process I was able to learn even more about Adobe Premier.

Night Photography

For this assignment we were asked to experiment with night photography. The concept of night photography, to me, isn’t all about the night time but more so using darkness to make photographs you couldn’t in the day light. For this assignment I wanted to use light sources and make interesting things with them. So I used both iPhone flashlights and christmas lights to create my images. I experienced a variety of problems from the lights blowing to just managing the settings on the camera. Over all I learned a tremendous amount about my camera and how to use manual settings.

Headers

My three headers that I made on photoshop. To create the headers I used photographs that I’d taken and different fonts.

Comic Strip

For this assignment I chose an Andrew Hopper painting and created a short comic strip out of it. The hardest part of this assignment for me was deciding which Edward Hopper piece had the most potential to make a comic strip out of. This assignment helped me practice my use of layers and other functions on Photoshop as well as test my creativity.

Street Photography

For this assignment we were asked to go out and capture “street photography”; just average people doing normal things. When looking for inspiration pictures, I was really inspired by  an image of a guy working at a churro stand. I liked this image because it wasn’t like a traditional “on the streets kind of photo”, so to play off of that I wanted to try and get some images in and outside of fast food restaurants. Unfortunately, this was much harder than anticipated, between me being awkward and the employees not cooperating. I struggled to get candid shots of people without them either trying to smile or trying to get out of the way. I ended up with some that were somewhat poor quality because I was having a hard time adjusting my iso and things on the spot while moments were happening. I definitely learned a lot about candid photography through this project.

For this project the concept was portraits. I was really inspired to use the people that I live with. So I photographed some of the guys I live with and one of the girls that lives next door and I think some definitely came out better than others but there were some victories. I used a black and white photo a woman as an inspiration picture. My biggest mistakes were that I didn’t change the iso and other things, and the pictures are sort of grainy.
